"Older Feet" - The Truth About Tired Feet

Have you been invited out after work and being on your feet all day and all you want to do is go home and soak your feet in Epsom Salts? If you are like me, you have been there and done that.

Your tired legs and feet can be caused or aggravated by something called over pronation (aka, flat feet due to loss of arch) or over supination (due to too high of an arch). Flat feet or loss of arch is the most common (although, my remedy is similiar for both), so I will concentrate on this.

Lets start with shoe wear. Heel and sole wear can be seen on the outer edges of the shoe and the heel. The top cover of the shoe will sometime run over the outer edge due to various factors including the fit of your shoes.

After the shoes come the feet. Things you can look for yourself are callouses on the bottom of the feet (or on the top is the shoe is too tight), arch pain, heel pain, knee, hip, and low back pain. Poor posture, forward head carrying are also problems that can occur "further upstream".

Here is your do it your-self experiment. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and note your posture. Now stand on the inside edge of your feet and check your posture (knees together, low back curve increased and more tense, shoulders slouching forward and your head ahead of your shoulders rather than on top). Experiment by standing on the outside of your feet and see what happens.

If you have any questions on this topic or any other, feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.
